Furthermore, 70% of Canada’s propane is exported due to a lack of demand. 

Is a vehicle converted to propane more dangerous?
No, a converted vehicle is regulated by the Quebec Propane Association and the installer must be certified and must meet the established standards. The ignition temperature of propane is higher than many other fuels, so it’s the opposite; the vehicle is safer.

Will propane damage the engine?
No, a propane-powered vehicle runs on purer gas and the engine is less prone to produce carbon deposits. For maximum performance, we recommend an annual maintenance and changing the spark plugs every 80,000 km to maximize economy.

Does a converted vehicle lose its warranty?
No, in Quebec, manufacturers and dealers cannot prohibit the consumer to choose an alternative fuel and must provide proof of failure due to the conversion in the event of an engine failure. In Europe, the manufacturers accept to honor the warranties and, if desired, the system can be deactivated with a simple push button. Many manufacturers, including Ford, GM and Dodge offer the propane loan option on their websites and dealerships offer to add propane conversion financing to the purchase of a new vehicle.

Can we transfer the conversion system if we change vehicles?
Yes, but it costs about $450 to dismantle the system and $2,500 for relocation. If you sell your vehicle with the conversion, the value added would be about $3,000. It would therefore be advantageous to sell it and have a new system installed to take advantage of the new features and warranties.

Are there any disadvantages to converting to propane?
